Mooning over Mooncakes

Meow, Meow, M-e-o-w! I’m as happy as a lark because the Festival of the Hungry Ghosts is over and it’s the mid-autumn festival now! It’s my favourite time of the year mainly because I have developed a passion for mooncakes, especially those with lotus seed paste filling. One of the nuns gave me a few pieces to savour the other day and they’re certainly tastier than rat meat!!

I’ve also been listening to the nuns talking about the legend of the Moon Goddess. It is a fascinating story and I have been peering at the moon during the past few nights trying to catch a glimpse of her in it. Unfortunately the weather has been wet and rain clouds keep hiding the moon from me.

God, what a place to live in – it must be cold and lonely up there and I wouldn’t swap places with her for anything. I love my warm, cosy corner in the temple kitchen; I love the hot meals the nuns give me; I love my job keeping the temple clean and free from pests. Oh yes, I also love my human mother, mentor, friend, confidante – Head Nun. I would be lost without her. I am more than thankful for all these blessings, not forgetting the unique chance to attain my goal, Nirvana which I might have missed if I had not lived in a temple.

Oh by the way, it’s tea time and I can’t wait to get back to my mooncakes. Catch up with you later!
